You will be of graduate standard and have an interest and/orexperience
in working with offenders within the Criminal Justice System. Your work will focus on supporting your clients to move into employment, training or education to help prevent re-offending. Able to prioritise, you will demonstrate good communication and team-working skills. Principal Activities
To interview clients on a one to one basis in order to assess their needs using the skills acquired through the NVQ level 4 in guidance.
To record the information collected on clients on the appropriate database (CRAMS)
To identify and agree an appropriate provider with the client in an impartial and non-judgmental way
To act as an advocate on behalf of the client to providers in an impartial and confidential way.
To promote the work of the Employment Unit within the local probation office and encourage referral to the unit by probation officers. To market the success of the Cardiff model and endeavour to mirror the model in the local area.
To work collaboratively with Basic Skills Agency, JobcentrePlus, the County Councils, neighbouring Careers Wales companies, local colleges, training providers and employer organisations.
To identify and agree with the client an aim and the steps needed to achieve that aim.
To agree a timescale for the plan and review progress at an agreed time.
To follow-up the case after six months to see if the client has sustained their employment.
To review the vocational progress made by the client and take any necessary remedial action.
To be familiar with the processes related to probation and to follow them with regard to specific procedures and those generally related to the company such as Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities. The advisers will also work to the Home Office National Standards for the Supervision of offenders in the Community and the quality standards stated in the processes for Careers Wales.
To participate in team meetings and co-operate in providing adequate cover of the agreed offices. To report to the co-ordinator in a regular agreed format on all key result areas and contribute to the collection of statistical data.
